At last count, the number of Americans facing food insecurity exceeds 50 million, and tragically, a third of these individuals are children. This essentially means that in a given year, 1 in 6 people in this country will at some point lack access, due to financial limitations or other barriers, to sufficient quantities of wholesome and nutritious food. With the amount of wealth and food waste that surrounds us, it simply doesn’t make sense that such a large segment of the population is struggling to get enough to eat. There’s plenty of food!
